Early career was in public accounting with Price Waterhouse and Deloitte.  Participated in Deloitte’s National Office Management Development Program in Accounting Research with a specialization in mergers and acquisitions.  Served as In-Charge of Columbia office of Deloitte after leaving National Office.  Helped found and take public Sonic Automotive, Inc., an automotive retailer, serving as CFO and President from 1997 until 2004.  Served as Chairman and CEO of Conn’s, Inc., a public hard lines retailer, successfully executing a turnaround before stepping down after serving as an officer from 2011 to 2016.  Served on the boards of Sonic Automotive, Inc., Conn’s, Inc. and Titan Machinery, Inc., the world’s largest CaseIH implement dealer, for a total of 27 years’ service on public boards of directors. 

After leaving Sonic Automotive in 2004 founded several closely held businesses with the largest of these successfully exited in a sale to a public strategic acquirer in 2024.  Currently, an active member with Ariel Savannah Angel Partners, Charleston Angel Partners and Frontier Angels and an active real estate investor in commercial and agricultural real estate.
